Little Falls, NJ…Democrats in Little Falls have announced their slate of candidates for the upcoming Primary Election on June 2nd.  Mayor James Damiano is seeking reelection for a four year term.  Damiano was first elected mayor in 2016 and previously served on the Little Falls Council.

Two council seats held by Councilwoman Maria Cordonnier and Council President Anthony Sgobba are expiring this year.  In early March, Councilwoman Cordonnier announced she would not seek another term.  Council President Sgobba is seeking reelection.

Little Falls Democrats selected Christine Hablitz, a member of the Democratic County Committee and Secretary of the Little Falls Democratic Club, to replace Cordonnier.  Hablitz, who works at Hackensack University Medical Center, is married with three children.

“I am tremendously proud of all the progress we have accomplished in the last four years, and with the continued support of Little Falls residents, we will continue that progress” Mayor Damiano stated, adding “nothing would have been accomplished without the support of this council”.  Damiano cited stabilizing taxes, improvements to recreation facilities and programs and record grant funding as his most important accomplishments.

According to Council President Sgobba, “our first responsibility to the taxpayer is fiscal responsibility.  We’ve worked closely with Mayor Damiano to level taxes while increasing services and increasing our rainy day fund.  Our bond rating was increased for the first time in many years.  This town is well positioned for the future”.

Christine Hablitz, who lives in the Singac section of town, has been involved in youth activity programs for many years, including serving as past president of Passaic Valley Football Cheering Association, recording secretary of Little Falls Football Parent Association, president of PV Operation Graduation, and assistant softball coach with the Little Falls Athletic Club.  “I think sports and recreation can be the heart of our community and it makes Little Falls a better place to raise our families”, Hablitz said.  “I want to continue to advocate for our young people and bring my experience to government to improve programs and expand recreation activities to our senior population.”

The announcement was made on the team’s website:  and their Facebook page Damiano Team 2020.

The deadline for filing nominating petitions for the Primary Election ballot was March 30th and no other candidates filed petitions in the Democratic Primary.
